When battling rogue black holes, vengeful aliens, criminal masterminds, and rifts in the evil dimension, the universe turns to its bravest and brightest to save the day. When those guys are busy, the universe is stuck with The Rocket Monkeys. Inexplicably charged with carrying out all kinds of important missions, brothers Gus and Wally cause more intergalactic calamity than they could ever prevent. Luckily, they have plenty of help from YAY-OK, their dashing and devoted (if slightly outdated) robot.

These monkeys may not have the brainpower of the Rocket Chickens or the guts of the Cosmosloths, but they do have a hunger for adventure. And by "adventure" we mostly mean "bananas".

Best described as "America's Funniest Videos" meets "COPS", this half-hour light-hearted series premiered in the highly competitive US in first run syndication in September '96 and was quickly embraced by stations and audiences alike. It became the #1 new weekly light entertainment series for the year.

America's Dumbest Criminals delivered good ratings because:
The stories are real, as they highlight some of the unluckiest criminals who are victimized by their own stupidity;
The series provides a humorous counterpoint to the more gritty side of crime and other reality based programs;
The blend of actual surveillance camera footage from law enforcement authorities with dramatic re-enactment segments provides a fast-paced format;

The series sends the right message: crime does not pay. The focus is on the inept criminal who lacks a plan or whose plan goes seriously afoul and they never can seem to get it right!

Broadcast in over 80 countries and with 9 different America's Dumbest Criminals books published, the series represents a genuine entertainment brand name.

America's Dumbest Criminals is highly marketable for all forms of media – pay, free, terrestrial, satellite and especially for short form entertainment within those emerging platforms in the new media landscape, such as mobile phone and web streaming

  • Brian Lacey

In the arena of global entertainment marketing and distribution, Lacey Entertainment stands apart as a program producer/supplier with a proven track record of success.

Lacey's early involvement with a little noticed children's animated series - Pokémon - established the company as a leader in program acquisition and international distribution. Through Lacey's strong marketing and global distribution strategies, Pokémon was licensed to every major international broadcast market becoming the leading kids entertainment brand in the world. Pokémon is widely regarded by many entertainment executives to represent the gold standard in children's entertainment over the past 30 years and remains perhaps the most iconic of all Japanese animated content.

Lacey's relationship with 4Kids Entertainment included another Japanese animated series that quickly became a mega-hit - Yugioh – currently in the 12th consecutive year of broadcast representing over 600 episodes. Lacey also executed the successful re-launch of the classic action kids series Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Both Yugioh and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT) were launched by Lacey within several months from release of pilots, as broadcast deals were secured in major markets around the world, including some of the biggest names in the business: Nickelodeon, TF1, M6, Lagardere TV, Media Set, RTL2, the ITV Network, GMTV, Cartoon Network, Sky TV, TEN Network, Telecinco, Antena 3, YTV, Teletoon, Televisa, and Globo TV among many others.

In early 2000, Lacey orchestrated the global roll out of the Japanese animated comedy cult series, Shin chan (Crayon Shin chan). Executive producing the English language adaptation of this offbeat and slightly controversial series, Lacey's distribution efforts cleared the series in over 100 countries.

In 1996, Lacey introduced the light entertainment series America's Dumbest Criminals. His distribution and production financing strategies helped launch the series in U.S. first-run syndication and worldwide. Lacey's global sales enabled the program to enjoy four consecutive seasons in U.S. syndication and resulted in broadcast in over 70 countries..

Lacey also successfully introduced the young children's classic The Mr. Men Show (Mr. Men and Little Miss) to American audiences in '97 via first-run syndication, and later broadcast on Cartoon Network.

Over the years, Lacey packaged a number of co-productions involving French, UK, Japanese, Korean and Canadian broadcasters and producers.

It's monkeys in space…what could go wrong?!

Rocket Monkeys (26x30) introduces the universe to brothers Gus and Wally. Inexplicably charged with carrying out all kinds of important missions, these hapless monkeynauts tend to cause more intergalactic calamity than they could ever prevent. Luckily they have plenty of help from YAY-OK, their dashing and devoted (if slightly outdated) robot. Gus and Wally may not have the brainpower of the Rocket Chickens or the guts of the Cosmosloths, but they do have a hunger for adventure -- and by "adventure" we mostly mean "bananas."

"We are extremely pleased to bring the off-the-wall antics of Rocket Monkeys to Nickelodeon in the US and worldwide. We have always valued our relationship with Nickelodeon, which has remained supportive of Breakthrough programming throughout the years, and look forward to furthering our association with the launch of Rocket Monkeys," said Ira Levy, Co-Managing Director of Breakthrough Entertainment.

"Rocket Monkeys is a great fit for our global network, a funny, energetic, laugh-out-loud comedy that we are confident our audiences around the world will love," said Jules Borkent, Senior Vice President of Global Acquisitions and International Programming, Nickelodeon.

"We are thrilled to join forces with Nickelodeon and so proud that Rocket Monkeys will find a home alongside some of the funniest and most beloved characters in animation history," said Joan Lambur, Executive Producer for Breakthrough Entertainment.

The show is created by Dan Abdo and Jason Patterson, and developed by Alex Galatis and Mark Evestaff (who also serves as the show's producer). Executive Producers include Ira Levy, Joan Lambur and Peter Williamson. Partial funding for Rocket Monkeys is provided by the Shaw Rocket Fund.
